The S.A.D. Diet
It is incredible how much our childhood reflects whom we become as adults. The environment we are raised in, the work ethic we were taught, the food we eat, how people treated us; the list goes on.
I was a chunky kid, pale face with freckles, and curly hair. I looked like no one around me, and I was treated so. I found comfort in food. I may not have children of my own, but I have a special placein my heart for them.
As of now, one in three children in America are overweight, and suffer from skin, gut, hormone, or mental focus issues. Children have excellent insulin sensitivity because they are so young, some may appear thin, but that does not mean they are not suffering inside. There is a direct correlation between nutrition and our health, and I think we can all agree on that. Unfortunately, the food we consume today does not appear as whole food. The standard American diet appears in the form of chemicals, preservatives, refined sugars, refined grains, and trans fats.
Now, I grew up on the Standard American Diet(SAD diet), and I turned out okay. I get it, and kids will be kids. However, it is our job as adults to guide them in the right direction so that as they become adults, they can make the best decisions for themselves and the planet. It is our job as adults to lead by example and be a good role model.
Please keep it simple; if it is not healthy for adults, it is just as damaging to a child.
P.S. The culprits I suggest minimizing the most are Blue #1(has been shown to cross the blood brain barrier) Red #3 and Red #40. They are all derived from petroleum.
