Benefits of Cabbage

If you haven't heard yet, purple cabbage is my jam! When it comes to eating plants, the more colors, the better. Research has linked dietary diversity to a healthier gut microbiome. Eating a wide variety of vegetables is essential for detoxification support and overall well-being. Benefits of purple cabbage:

1.) Linked to Reducing the Risk of Cancer

Including cruciferous vegetables, like cabbage, regularly is one the American Cancer Society's key dietary recommendations for reducing the risk of cancer.

2.) Boosts Your Immune System.

Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant throughout the body, protecting DNA, proteins, and lipids from free radicals' oxidative damage.

3.) Fights Inflammation and Arthritis.

Purple cabbage contains phytonutrients that may help reduce chronic inflammation. According to The Arthritis Foundation, eating a diet filled with anthocyanin-rich fruits and vegetables like red cabbage should be a part of an arthritis patient's daily regimen.

4.) Aids in Healthy Bones.

Purple cabbage is a vitamin K-rich food. We know that vitamin K increases the amount of a specific protein required to maintain bone calcium, thus reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Women, in particular, seem to have higher bone density when eating a diet high in vitamin K.

5.) Promotes a Healthy Gut.

Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microscopic living things are referred to as microorganisms or gut microbes. Trillions of these microorganisms exist mainly inside your intestines and on your skin. Most of the microorganisms in your intestines are found in a "pocket" of your large intestine, and they are referred to as the gut microbiome (also known as your second brain). There are roughly 40 trillion bacterial cells in your body, and only 30 trillion human cells. These live bacteria are in control of multiple systems throughout the body.

My favorite way to incorporate cabbage is by slicing it very thin and adding it tacos, a stir-fry, and veggie pizzas!
