Antioxidants

Antioxidants are natural substances that exist in the foods that we eat. The most significant benefit that antioxidants offer is that they fight free radicals(substances that damage and age the body). Free radicals form daily through every day processes such as breathing. Think about how many environmental toxins that we inhale daily inside and outside of our home?

The word "antioxidant" means "against oxidation." Free radicals are very toxic to our cells and increase aging; antioxidants help prevent them from harming us! You can get antioxidants through supplementation, but even better, you can get it through the foods you consume.

The one antioxidant that I think is most known and studied is Vitamin C. Sources of Vitamin C include: Oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, strawberries, green peppers, red peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and other leafy green vegetables.

Vitamin E is another well-known antioxidant. You can get Vitamin E in food sources such as sprouted grains, nuts, seeds, and again leafy green vegetables(see how important those are)?

According to Dr. Eric Kaplan, he considers Vitamin A, C, E, and Selenium to be the four ACES and the best vitamins to offer antioxidants. Other king and queen sources of antioxidants come from: Blueberries(which are high in Vitamin K), acai berries, raspberries, blackberries, goji berries, beets, artichokes, dark chocolate(80% cacao and above), purple cabbage, purple grapes, sweet potatoes, and potatoes. White tea, green tea, jasmine tea are also great ways to get your antioxidants in.
