Sit Less, Move More
Since the dawn of time, it has been said that we should "eat less, move more." This approach is technically a place to start, but nowadays so many other factors come into play besides energy in versus energy out. Many other factors contribute to our health and overall results including activity level, hormones, stress, sleep, gut health and more.
As a society as a whole, we are moving less and less. Children are on their tablets playing games instead of being outside all day riding bikes until supper. Americans are sitting at desks all day staring at screens or on the phone, then coming home and staring at the television.
Did you know?
Americans sit 11 hours on average.
65% of Americans watch TV for 2 or more hours daily.
Women are more likely to lead more sedentary lives than men.
20% of all deaths of people age 35 and older are attributed to lack of physical activity.
Need a place to start? I recommend going for a few short walks daily. Preferably for 5 minutes or longer after you eat. Also, many companies now offer their employees an incentives program. From there, you can use your incentives towards a stand-up desk. If the weather allows, I suggest incorporating outside activities like hiking, swimming or riding your bike.
